Good to know
How this tool works
Paste an original and revised version or open UTF-8 text files. Compare words and punctuation or whole lines, then switch between side-by-side and combined results. Removed text is struck through and added text is underlined. Large or very different inputs may need to be compared in smaller sections.
Frequently asked questions
What is Visual Text Comparison useful for?
Compare two texts with clearly highlighted additions and removals. Validate a small sample before processing important data, and keep a copy of the original input.
Is my information stored?
Your text is processed locally in a browser worker. It is not uploaded by this tool or saved in browser storage. Clear releases the working input and result. Downloads remain in your normal download folder.
Does this compare meaning or detect plagiarism?
No. It compares text fragments, not meaning, authorship or document formatting. Moved passages may appear as removals and additions.
What do the ignore options do?
Ignore capitalisation compares lowercase versions while keeping each side’s original letter case visible. Ignore spacing replaces whitespace runs, including line breaks, with a single space in the result and trims surrounding whitespace. Your inputs stay unchanged.
How are changes counted?
A changed section is a consecutive run of additions and removals. Replacements count as both removed and added words. Punctuation changes can create a changed section without changing the word counts. Whole-line mode counts every word in a changed line.
