Font to SVG Glyph Extractor

Upload a static TTF, OTF or WOFF font, choose a character or glyph number, preview its outline and download a standalone vector graphic. Processing stays on your device.

Turn a character into a vector graphic

Choose your font, select a letter or symbol and extract its outline. Nothing is uploaded or installed on your device.

TTF, OTF or WOFF, up to 5 MB. WOFF2, font collections, variable fonts and colour/bitmap fonts are not supported yet.

Choose your character

One character at a time. This extracts a stored outline, not a whole word or a connected writing style.

Your extracted outline

Your character will appear here

Black outline on a transparent background. The SVG is cropped to the drawing, with its original proportions. The font is not embedded.

Check the font’s licence before using or sharing the extracted artwork, especially in logos, products or templates. Owning a font file or converting it does not grant additional rights.

Processed privately in your browser — your entries are not uploaded.

Good to know

How this tool works

Choose a supported static font, select one character or a glyph number and extract its outline. Preview the result and download a tightly cropped SVG with its original proportions. Files remain on your device; no font installation or upload is required.

Frequently asked questions

What is Font to SVG Glyph Extractor useful for?

Extract a letter or symbol from a font as a neatly cropped SVG. Inspect the full-size result rather than relying only on the preview, particularly around fine edges and text.

Is my information stored?

Your text is processed locally in a browser worker. It is not uploaded by this tool or saved in browser storage. Clear releases the working input and result. Downloads remain in your normal download folder.

Which fonts can I use?

This version supports static, single-colour TTF and OTF outline fonts, and their WOFF equivalents. WOFF2 requires a separate decompressor and is not supported yet. Font collections, variable fonts, colour/bitmap fonts and unsupported structures are rejected. Limits are 5 MB input, 20 MB expanded tables and 20,000 glyphs.

Why is my letter or symbol missing?

Not every font contains every character. The tool will not replace a missing character with a fallback font. Try the quick picks, or choose a glyph number to explore symbols and alternatives. Spaces and other blank glyphs have no visible outline to export.

Can it extract whole words or joined writing?

Not in this version. It extracts one stored glyph at a time without contextual shaping, ligatures or font hinting. Joined scripts and multi-character emoji sequences need a text-shaping tool. Some accented input is normalised to a single precomposed character when possible.

Will the SVG keep its shape?

The drawing becomes black vector paths on a transparent background, cropped to its outline with a tiny safety margin. Its proportions are preserved and no font is embedded. Curves use up to six decimal places; check fine details in the app where you will use the SVG.

Does conversion give me permission to use the artwork?

No. Check the specific font licence for your intended use, modification and redistribution. Font copyright and licence descriptions found in the file are included as text in the SVG, alongside our extraction-tool credit—not a claim that we own the font. This is not a licence verification service.

How is the font read?

We use OpenType.js locally, with input, decompression and outline limits. The font is not installed, and its hinting instructions are not executed.
