CCTV Video Compatibility Checker
Inspect a CCTV recording locally, understand possible playback problems and create a compatible viewing copy where supported.

If the recording is not supported
Keep the original file, any companion files and the recorder’s export folder together. Ask the owner or installer for a standard H.264 MP4 or AVI export with audio and visible timestamps if needed. Renaming the extension does not convert a recording.
DAV, SEC and manufacturer-specific exports
The extension alone cannot identify the recorder reliably. If it came from a Dahua recorder, its SmartPlayer may be needed. Hanwha SEC exports can contain proprietary watermark information. Use software from the manufacturer’s official website, not a random codec-download advert.
Protected, damaged or raw video streams
This tool does not remove passwords, bypass encryption or repair damaged recordings. Raw H.264/H.265 streams without reliable timing are not converted: guessing the frame rate could change the apparent speed of events. Use an authorised export from the recorder.
Only use recordings you are authorised to access. Do not rely on a converted viewing copy as a replacement for the original evidence.

Good to know
How this tool works
Choose a recording and explicitly start local inspection. Read the detected format, codecs and limitations. Eligible short recordings can be repackaged or re-encoded as a separate MP4 viewing copy. Keep the original and review the output; header inspection does not prove a file is complete or authentic.
Frequently asked questions
What is CCTV Video Compatibility Checker useful for?
Find recording formats and convert supported files to MP4. Preview the complete result with sound before sharing it and keep the source recording unchanged.
Is my information stored?
This tool works in your browser. The information you enter is not sent to us or saved in an account by this tool.
Can this convert every CCTV recording?
No. Manufacturer-specific formats, protected recordings, missing timing information and damaged exports may need the original recorder software. We do not guess the camera brand from the extension or remove protection.
Why keep the original?
The viewing copy can lose metadata, extra tracks, separate timestamps and recorder authentication information. Re-encoding changes picture data. Keep the original and its companion files unchanged.
What can be converted here?
Supported readable containers and codecs up to 150 MB, two minutes and 1080p. H.264 with compatible AAC audio may be copied into MP4 without re-encoding; other supported codecs are re-encoded. Multi-camera files and HDR are not converted in this version.
