Frequently asked questions
What is Markdown Editor & Preview useful for?
Write Markdown with a live preview and simple formatting buttons. Validate a small sample before processing important data, and keep a copy of the original input.
Is my information stored?
Your text is processed locally in a browser worker. It is not uploaded by this tool or saved in browser storage. Clear releases the working input and result. Downloads remain in your normal download folder.
What is Markdown?
Markdown is plain text with simple formatting marks: # makes a heading, **text** makes text bold, and a dash starts a list. The buttons insert these marks for you. Leave a blank line between paragraphs; use two spaces at the end of a line for a deliberate line break.
Which features are supported?
Headings, emphasis, lists, quotes, code blocks, tables, horizontal rules and web or email links. Raw HTML is displayed as text. Images are replaced by labelled placeholders, including in HTML downloads. Special extensions such as diagrams, mathematics and interactive task lists are not included.
Why are links inactive in the preview?
The preview is isolated and cannot run scripts or load external images. Links do not navigate away while you edit. Supported absolute HTTP, HTTPS and mailto links work in the HTML export; opening them contacts their destination. Relative links are not enabled.
Will the downloads match?
The HTML document uses the same typography and formatting as the preview, with working supported links. Markdown downloads keep your original text, including any image references or raw HTML; another Markdown app may handle those differently. No writing is saved when you leave or reload this page.
